July

My June goals:

  1. Apply to 1-2 jobs each week
  2. Finish preparing for study abroad
  3. Order graduation invitations as soon as UA announces the official time and place

My plan to set a smaller goal per week went swimmingly. I highly recommend this to other job seekers!

I’m not setting any July goals because I’m in London. I’ve temporarily put my job search on hold but I hope I’ll have a few promising emails while I’m across the pond.

Cheers!

June

Ok, May goals:

  1. Continue to plan for studying abroad
  2. Apply! Apply! Apply! to some more jobs!
  3. Improve my website/blog
  4. Eat healthier!

Clearly I’ve been going a little list crazy recently, but it’s been working to my advantage! I only have a few weeks left to prepare for graduation and studying abroad and luckily the only things left to do are to write a few book reviews and figure out what to pack!

So, June goals:

  1. Apply to 1-2 jobs each week
  2. Finish preparing for study abroad
  3. Order graduation invitations as soon as UA announces the official time and place

I kept saying to myself, “apply to tons of jobs!” but in reality since I started my job search in February I’ve only applied to five jobs. That seems like an incredibly small number for all the time and work I’ve been putting into my job search! I’m hoping a definite goal of 1-2 jobs a week will help me reach my goal of “tons” of jobs applied for. I’ve had difficulties finding archival/special collections jobs, especially in the areas I’m looking in. But I’m still optimistic about my job search and hope to hear from some employers soon!

Current Craziness

My current craziness:

  1. Plan my mom’s 50th birthday shindig!
  2. Apply for jobs!
  3. Get everything ready for graduation
  4. Get everything ready for study abroad
  5. Spring clean my house
  6. Read a million library books
  7. Do homework
  8. Plan an anniversary trip
  9. Research a family vacation for later in the year

That truly is a random assortment. Just a little update for anyone interested in what I’ve been up to recently.

May

April was a whirlwind! I had several papers and final projects due. I attended the Alabama Library Association (ALLA) conference. And two wonderful friends stayed the weekend with us! Overall it was very hectic, but also very fun!

The ALLA 2012 was my very first conference and it was lots of nerdy fun! I was surprised by how many people I already knew in the library field and very proud of all my fellow graduates who presented.

Let’s see how I did on my April Goals:

  1. DEFINITELY GET INTERVIEW WORTHY OUTFITS
  2. Apply to several jobs
  3. Write my two final papers of the semester
  4. Start planning/gathering items for study abroad

I completed all my goals! I believe that is a blog first for me!

So, a few May goals:

  1. Continue to plan for studying abroad
  2. Apply! Apply! Apply! to some more jobs!
  3. Improve my website/blog
  4. Eat healthier!

My big goal is to apply as many jobs as possible this month since I will be MIA from the job hunt during the month of July. I’m excited for my trip to London though!

April

Ok March recap!

1. Apply to some MORE jobs!

2. Hopefully be approved to present a poster at the ALLA

3. Submit a paper proposal

4. See The Avett Brothers

5. See The Hunger Games

6. Get some interview worthy outfits!

The interview outfits keep alluding me! I went on a few shopping trips this month but never found anything I really liked. But I’m going to a conference later this month and I’m going to have to find something soon! Now that the semester has wound down a bit I think I’ll have more time for shopping. Oh, and my poster was approved! Pretty excited/nervous about presenting but I think it will be a good experience!

I was not able to submit a paper proposal because the deadline fell right in the middle of semester madness! So I’m hoping I’ll be able to  work on publishing something early this summer.

I only applied for one job this month because of previous mentioned semester madness. I did learn a valuable lesson about applying promptly though. I spent a lot of time on a second job application, cover letter, and CV, etc, and by the time I went to apply the position had been filled/closed. Valuable lesson learned.

My family and I went to see The Avett Brothers and The Hunger Games to celebrate my sister’s birthday this year. Both were really good!

So, for April:

  1. DEFINITELY GET INTERVIEW WORTHY OUTFITS
  2. Apply to several jobs
  3. Write my two final papers of the semester
  4. Start planning/gathering items for study abroad

March

Ok, lets look at how I did on my February goals:

1. Apply to some jobs!

2. Buy some thank you notes

3. Get a couple of interview worthy outfits

4. Get some new glasses

I think I did pretty well! I already had one interview worthy outfit, but failed to do some extra shopping. That just means more shopping fun this month!

I applied for two jobs, one in Tuscaloosa, AL and another in Cambridge, MA. I’m very excited about both positions and am crossing my fingers that I hear back from them! I had to make a million revisions to my resume and curriculum vitae, and I wrote several cover letters before I was happy with my final results. I hope all my hard work pays off!

Here are my goals for March:

1. Apply to some MORE jobs!

2. Hopefully be approved to present a poster at the ALLA

3. Submit a paper proposal

4. See The Avett Brothers

5. See The Hunger Games

6. Get some interview worthy outfits!

February

A few of my fellow library school bloggers like to do monthly goals posts. (A) I think this is a wonderful idea and (B) I am about to blatantly copy them! (It’s because I love you!)

So, my goals for February. I officially start my job search this month so there are a lot of things to do.

1. Apply to some jobs!

2. Buy some thank you notes

3. Get a couple of interview worthy outfits

4. Get some new glasses (mine bit the dust over the winter holiday)

Ok, so maybe the list isn’t that long. But #1 is definitely going to be time-consuming. Wish me luck!
